Geographically, the route follows part of the valleys of the Cardener River, and the Aigua d’Ora and Negra Rivers, these two in their last stretches. It is here that the confluence of the three rivers meets. This route takes you along their banks. Their waters have shaped the surrounding landscape and the passing of time is etched on the old mills that you will pass by. Other landmarks include the Paperer, which was once a mill and textile factory, the Molí Nou (new mill) and Buidasacs which is in a state of ruin, where the Cardener river meanders sinuously, just as it does at la Llum, an electric power station which brought light to Cardona, hence the name La Llum, meaning The Light.
From hills and crests we can view the valleys and streams that carry water in these three rivers. It is a truly pleasant and surprising journey that takes you through contrasting scenery, both gentle and stark, at the boundary of three counties, those of Bages, Bergueda and Solsonès.
Other spots in the surrounding countryside of Cardona that can boast wonderful scenery are the Sant Grau stream, the Coma valley, the Guitart torrent as well as the Nyítols valley and the Cadenes torrent. We can contemplate this beauty from the watchtower at les Hortes that provides a great viewing point toward the north. From here, you can see most of the journey included on this route.
